class scholarship photos mergedThe following PGHSAA scholarships were presented at the PGHS Awards Night Ceremony, May 15, 2024:

PGHSAA Scholarships ($1,000 each):

  • Hailie Atkinson plans to attend UC Berkeley this fall, where she will major in English and computer science. She intends to enter the field of either UX Design or publishing.
  • Nico Coatu will major in mechanical engineering at Oregon State University this fall. He plans to work in manufacturing and create projects for combating climate change and approaching sustainability.
  • Emily Keller will attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall. She plans to be a published novelist and a university professor of English.
  • Izzy Kraft plans to attend the University of California at San Diego to study environmental science, with the goal of working in the field of environmental policy.
  • Kyle Lavin will attend Sonoma State this fall, where he plans to major in history. After graduation, he would like to become a history teacher or work for a major-league sports team.
  • Rylee Sakakihara will major in environmental science at UC Riverside.
  • Shayla Sanchez plans to attend MPC to major in kinesiology; she eventually plans to work as a physical therapist.
  • Erin Shoemaker will attend UC Santa Cruz this fall, where she plans to major in community studies. After college, she wants to use her degree to focus on social justice work and on assessing strategies for achieving social change.
  • Jennifer Thompson is still considering whether she will attend the University of the Pacific or a community college. She plans to major in computer science and hopes to travel after graduation and before she starts her career.

PGHSAA Fine Arts Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Evan Conneau plans to study studio arts at MPC this fall.

Cool and Nifty Class of ’60 Scholarship ($1,060):

  • Baba Eren will attend MPC to study engineering, with a goal of working as a civil engineer.

Class of 1968 Scholarship ($1,968):

  • Asher Nelson plans to attend Cabrillo College, where he will major in the arts. He hopes to travel, and to dance professionally.

Class of 1971 Scholarship ($1,071):

  • Dayci Dishny is a vocalist who plans to study music education and eventually work as a choral educator or a speech/language pathologist. She will attend UC Davis in the fall.

Class of 1973 Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Caitlin Brophy will attend CSU Long Beach this fall, where she will major in mechanical engineering. Her goal is to work for an engineering design team or in project management.

Ada Eleanor Smith Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Mary Lowen will attend San Diego State University, where she will study computer science.

Beverly Wilson Stillwell ’49 Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Patricia Lara-Contreras plans to attend MPC, where she will major in medical assisting, with a goal of working in the health care industry.

Tommy Stillwell ’74 Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Sasha Adams plans to attend MPC and major in biology, with a career goal of becoming a marine biologist.

Richard Reynolds ’57 Science and Technology Scholarship ($9,000):

  • Mason Pick plans to attend UC Santa Cruz this fall. He intends to major in robotics engineering and pursue a career in mechanical engineering.

Hank Garcia ’57 Athletic Scholarship ($1,000):

  • Sean Perkins plans to attend MPC to study kinesiology and then transfer to CSUMB.
